Types of Operation
Below is an overview of the current type of flights detailed within our “Operation Manual” which has been approved by the EuroUSC on behalf of the CAA.
Visual Line of Sight (VLOS)
All SUA’s will be used for Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) operations currently defined as operating to a maximum of 500m horizontally away from the Remote Pilot and no higher than 400ft (approximately 120m) above surface level.
Night Flying
When the SUA is required to inspect “Works” during non-daylight hours (typically relating to Infra-Red imagery); these “Works” will be assessed on a case by case basis but will only be considered if the following conditions are met:
- Permission of the appropriate Air Traffic Control unit has been obtained.
- Any On-Screen Display (OSD) is operational (reporting aircraft status).
- Daylight inspection reveals no obstructions in the surrounding area
- There is a well-lit take-off/landing area.
The flight operation is restricted to a Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) operation within an airspace “bubble” measured within 30m horizontally away from the Pilot and no higher than 400ft (approximately 120m) above ground level.
